San Diego is a town that has it all. And in our 4 days we crammed in as much as we could. Wade was in San Diego for work, so the kids and I met him for a nice 4 day weekend. Celebrating Brenner turning 2 was of course another reason to find out what this incredible town had to offer for the littles. Sea World? Yes, please. San Diego Zoo? Uh... YEAH! Meeting up with our old neighbors from Virginia Beach? Woo-Hoo! Six hour drive with me and my two littles through crazy LA traffic? No prob.
I was so afraid that the kids would be on overload all weekend. But those two showed us. They were wonderful and recharged their batteries in ten seconds flat. The weather was... well, typical San Diego-
A-Mazing. A tad warm with a cool sea breeze, mixed with peace, calm, and absolute tranquility. A nice recharge on
my battery actually. Oh I'm so glad we made this trip. Beautiful, breath-taking views. Amazing food. Fun for the kids. Insane amount of fun for the parentals. My only question is, how soon can we go back?
We first checked out the military base at Coronado. This was a really neat place. We made a stop at the beach, totally unprepared. No towels or sand-friendly gear and toys. But we did come across a cute set-up for an outdoor wedding ceremony that was hours away from showtime. We stood on the sand and watched as the skies rumbled while Hornet jets soared overhead. A little girl and boy's dream... Brenner is really, really, really, really into jets. He's actually a bit obsessed.
Sea World. We had some other friends drive down to San Diego as well for the weekend with a very similar itinerary as ours, so we met up a for a bit. Emmy and Kayla, those two can make anybody giggle.
Brenner was not really into the shows. But in his defense, the beginning of the Shamu show was slow-going, and there was no escaping the beating down of the sun, shade was pretty nonexistent, and there were crowds among crowds of people which was distracting. However, Emmy loved the show. She had a smile that could not be disguised and she laughed at every trick and splash. Oh and we were not in the splash zone. Emmy probably would have loved it. But, you gotta get there early if you want the good seats.

Brenner was a little more apprehensive, but I'm pretty sure they high-fived.
San Diego Zoo. The zoo was tons of fun, and it was almost crossed off the itinerary, but I'm so glad we decided to stay one extra day to squeeze this little gem in. Everyone needs to experience a good zoo. And this zoo is definitely a good zoo. There were parts that felt so secluded, like we were the only ones that secretly knew where to find the monkeys with the white furry armpits. Shade could
definitely be found. And I don't really know which the kids liked better. And I'm pretty sure I'd get a different answer each time I would ask. So I'll just say that they were equally fantastic.
These two pictured below grew up together and take walks around the zoo side by side. Yes, I am talking about the leopard and the dog. Strange, I know. I had to take a second look when I saw a dog behind this fence. I stand corrected. Thank you hubby, it's a cheetah. I clearly don't know my cats.
When Emmy saw this panda she said, "That panda is making a mess all over his belly!"
Is it common to see a hump on a camel slunk over to the side? Is "slunk" even a word?
This is what we got 1 minute after pulling out of the zoo's parking lot. So maybe it took longer than 10 seconds to recharge this time...
We had dinner in the Little Italy section of downtown with our old neighbors from Virginia Beach. Mike and Vianney are terribly missed and we hope to see them again soon. That's the crazy thing about the military, you never know when or where your paths may cross again. Who knew we'd be meeting up in San Diego...
6 hours there, 4.5 on the way back to our humble abode. So worth it. And I'd do it again this weekend. San Diego, until next time...
